PUNA COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER

​In addition to the Kipuka Garden, the planned Puna Community Medical Center will include a dental center, a women's health center, a 25-bed hospital and an emergency room.

​ The PCMC campus is located after the 9 mile marker  on Highway 130, a short distance before Pahoa town, if one is headed to Pahoa from Kea'au or Hilo.

KĪPUKA COMMUNITY GARDEN

​The Puna Community Medical Center Foundation (PCMCF) has formally inaugurated its  Hawaiian Healing Center starting with a Hawaiian medicinal herb Kipuka Garden.

Hawaiian medicinal plants initially planned for the Kipuka are ʻŪhaloa, Noni, ʻŌlena, Kalo, Laʻi, Niu, ʻAwa, Kukui. ​

The Hawaiian Healing Center will  be an important component of the larger Puna Community Medical Campus.

​The “Puna District” of Hawaii is a rural geographic area located south of Hilo, consisting of Keaau, Pāhoa, Mountain View, Kurtistown, and Volcano. 

​Other than local primary care providers the region has minimal healthcare assets in the Puna District making it one of the most under-served communities in the State of Hawai’i

Hilo Medical Center (HMC) is located over 20 miles from PCMC and houses the closest Emergency Room (ER) and acute care hospital.  A one-way trip to Hilo medical Center is more than 30 minutes (not accounting for traffic) away from the majority of the Puna District’s residents.
